"Honmon Butsuryu-shu", one of the Buddhist school which we belonged to until 1991, had adopted the hierarchy (combination of class system and bureaucratism ) to the administrative system. It also split the organization to control all the temples of the school so that the whole system could be easily driven.
After that it has invited the hiding internal strife and showy events, and altered the real motive and principle of the faith and lecture. It has also become the enlightening and rationalized group taking in the method of mechanized rational science which is criticized by present scientists to attract the lay followers by colorful entertainment with famous talents etc.. The spirit of the genuine Buddhism has been lost in this way. I am afraid that it could be gone for all the religious organizations in the world.
In 1960s, international scientists of all fields held some symposiums in European countries and the U.S., where reductionistic mechanical (disintegrative) cosmology has been confuted and the new paradigm of the organismic (integrative) cosmology has sprung up as a result of their discussions. Transpersonal-beyond individuals, inquiry of mind has been studied sincerely and made a remarkable academic progress since then.
There have been no bounds to the reductionism of mechanical cosmology so called mechanical rationalism until 1960s, though some scientists had anticipated serious environmental and social problems including refusing school attendance, bullying, increase of children's suicide and mental diseases which cause social crimes, if reductionism had kept on developing. Finally, the development of reductionistic, mechanical and rational science were put on the brakes and the organismic cosmology began to flow the main current of science alternatively. Then the organismic cosmology has developed into the theory of the transpersonal.
In Japan on the other hand, old western scientific idea of those days has been introduced after World War 2, and most Japanese have lost their original wisdom while individualism and materialism were developing rapidly. People made much of rationalism (mechanical, reductionistic cosmology), and the organismic cosmology was avoided as a heretic theory. Having come to a deadlock, Japanese scientists had to start introducing the organismic cosmology about 10 yeas ago.
When I visited Sanseido book shop in Jimpocho, Tokyo in 1994, I found a lot of books related to transpersonal at a special section with beautiful banners, where I bought several books with joy. I was glad to think that the time for transpersonal had come to Japan finally. To my disappointment, there was no such sections any more when I visited the shop again in 1995. The salesclerk told me that those books had not sold well. She completely agreed to my opinion that Japanese people were inattentive to this subject. Civilization and enlightenment at the beginning of Meiji era (about 130 years ago) has not been completed yet in Japan. Common people in closed society like Japan have not been farsighted enough to think of transpersonal or inquiry of mind as yet. These must be the subjects of Buddhism, but almost all Buddhists' leaders themselves have been influenced by the rationalism so called modernization, and they have made lay followers materialists through the formalization of their leadership and religious practice. "Honmon Butsuryu-shu" which we used to belong to is also no exception.
Leaving "Honmon Butsuryu-shu", we established our own religious corporation. "Honkunji-Temple" to let the people know true alive religion in 1991. We named ourselves "Honmon Butsuryu-ko Gohoshineiren" to make the substance of our religion clear. Our activity is aimed to save all the people and society.
In 1992, the following year of secession, we sent the booklets "We Object to Honmon Butsuryu-shu" explaining the reasons of our secession to the directors of all the "Honmon Butsuryu-shu temples".
